Introduction

Latvia is one of three Baltic states, which joined European Union in 2004. Latvia has a border with Russia, Republic of Belarus, Lithuania and Estonia.

Due to good geographical location of Latvia port of Riga is used as a gate for cargo transit to Russia and to other CIS countries. 27 million tons of cargo is handling through Riga sea terminals every year, 80% of which is transit cargo to/from CIS countries.

Latvian biggest container terminals are handling more then 2000000 TEU per year, the largest part of which are shipped to/from Russia, Republic of Belarus and other CIS countries.
